How it works

Paste JSON

Paste it or open a .json file up to 5 MB. It is parsed in this tab and never uploaded.

Query or click

Type a query to list every match, or click a node in the tree to get its path.

Copy the result

Copy the matched values as a JSON array, their normalized paths, or one node's JSON Pointer.

Which JSONPath syntax does it use?

RFC 9535, the IETF standard published in February 2024, via the open-source json-p3 library. One known gap: a quoted string with an escaped control character, like $['\u001f'], is rejected.

Why does a query from Jayway or an old tutorial fail?

Older dialects differ from the standard. Use match() or search() instead of =~, [-1] instead of [(@.length-1)], and length() inside a filter instead of .length() or size. The tester shows these hints as you type.

What is a normalized path?

The one canonical path to a node: brackets, single quotes and fixed escaping, like $['data']['orders'][0]. The finder also shows dot notation and the JSON Pointer for the same node.

Is my JSON sent anywhere?

No. This tool has no server endpoint. Queries run in a Web Worker in this tab, stopped after 3 seconds so a slow regex can't freeze the page. Duplicate names, integers outside ±(2^53-1) and numbers out of float range get a warning, because JSON parsers may read them differently.

Need JSON from a website first?
